A landscape of plaster with a reservoir behind a dam, clear tubing pipes or open canals for moving water - drip irrigation and a dripping fauscet for ag and home use, dirty water in an open tank for industry, the water flowing into a treatment plant with a sand bed for one form of treatment and back out as stream with recirc pump to get it back up to reservoir.

Using a fish tank, multiple concept can be considered.

1) Where the water is flowing like a river and is contributed by run off from spill ways, rain run-offs and creeks which could feed a water purifying plant or into a lake or river.

2) Top soil run-off combined with septic systems and other polluting sources penetrate down into the ground which combines with the fresh water aqua. The water is moving underground which eventually is pumped up into drinking wells located down stream.

By using a colored dye, to represent pollution, is settling into the soil and eventually reaching the wells down stream. This is all happening underground.

This contaminated well water would have to be treated before it is potable.
