I don't know the piece off the bat, but it has to be from a late Romantic period opera or later. But no, that isn't Pavarotti's voice (his voice isn't as reedy).

Anyhow, you can try posting the song (or hum it) at http://www.namemytune.com and see if others can come up with an answer, too.

My God.

I listened 3 seconds and it's 'Celeste Aida' from Verdi's Aida. Singer could be Richard Tucker, positively no Luciano.

Sounds a lot like "big Lucy"; Luciano Pavarotti.

I'm not sure what the piece is though, didn't pop directly into my mind and I don't care to research it right now (too many Italian operas, not enough time). Perhaps one of the others will get it quick.
