Lox is salted, smoked salmon.

It was popular years ago but now "Nova", "Scottish", Irish,and Pacific Smoke Salmons are the rage.

They are way lower in sodium then the Belly Lox.

There's also Gravadlox which are cured with sugar, salt and spice( traditionally Norwegian) but now somewhat popular through out the country.

Scottish is usually the best seller ( although older people mistakenly call it Lox it is really just "smoked salmon").

Lox is cold smoked salmon.  The smoking agent is a mixture of sugar and spices (it's been a while since I did my own cold smoking, but I can dig out the recipe if you want it).
