before you buy anything, analyse whether you can go without it.

for example; you don't need to go to a restaurant, or buy a new laptop.

you do however need food... the thing is, how cheap do you want to go on that?

Well, there is no way to police it.  You will have to make the CHOICE to be responsible.  There are little things you can do like having money taken out of your check and placed in retirement accounts or savings BEFORE you get your hands on it.

Setting specific financial goals is another way.

Read some books and see how much you can save if you put your mind to it.

"The Millionaire Next Door", "The Automatic Millionaire", and "Total Money Makeover" are great books to get you in the right mindset.  Buy them or check them out for free from your library.

Use coupons, clippings from the Sunday newspaper. Also when you buy something, in the receipt, sometimes it gives you a website to go and tell them about your experience at the store, after you completed, they will give you a coupon for the store.  Again, this is only for certain stores, but still dosent cost you anything to complete the survey.

i don't know your personal spending habits so it's hard for me to say what will work for you!
