Today I noticed that my bird was sitting on the bottom of the cage all puffed up. He isn't whistling and he's usually non-stop when it comes to whistling. I put a small towel in the cage for him to stand on but he just ignored it and went up to the lowest perch (like 3 inches off the bottom of the cage.) Is she ok?

She's about 4 years old. And she's a cockatiel.

PLEASEEE tell me if this is normal or what i can do to help her.

i love her.

  1. she might just be sleeping or go in the phone book and ask a bird store.

  2. I concur with the previous person who answered.  The bird is sick and needs to see an avian vet.  It is important to keep his environment warm when he is sick.

  3. From what you've described, it sounds like your bird may be feeling a little under the weather.  The best thing you can do for it is go to a pet store, where you can get some vitamins that you put it it's water.  Also, make sure the room temperature is comfortable, and keep the cage covered most of the way until she's feeling better again.  This will help to reduce any unnecessary stress.  Ask at your pet store if you notice any other symptoms.

  4. From what I understand, when a bird appears sick, take him to a vet IMMEDIATELY.  They instinctively "hold out" so predators don't pick them out.

A friend's parrot: fine one day, listless the next  He was eating the lead foil off the wine bottles for quite some time from the evidence. Two weeks of blood transfusions to remove lead poisoning.

My old bird fell from his perch, he lasted a day, think he had a heart attack.  Stayed on the bottom of the cage. Died next day.

  5. She's sick. When they sit on they cage puffed up, they are cold. Your bird is probably sick because she's to cold. If this doesn't improve for the next hour, take her to an Avian vet.
