  1. What species of Pleco?

Some are small, like bristlenose, and would be happy in 60l tank for life.

Others like a Sailfin (Gibbiceps) will grow to 45cm or more. Mine is getting moved to a 300l tank in the near future.

The 'common' species are actually several different types, it's hard to tell them apart, but the all grow to more than 30cm long, some can reach 60cm!!

  2. For a common pleco (like the kind you find as babies in almost ALL petstores) you need at least a 6 foot, 125 gallon tank. Otherwise you will stunt their growth and cause an early death.

  3. I have a 30 gallon tank and my pleco got so big I had to give it to the pet store. They can grow to 18 inches. Heres a link for you: http://www.fishlore.com/Profiles-Pleco.h...

  4. Depends on the pleco.  Some only get about 6 inches long, while others can get close to two feet long.

I have 2.  Norman is about 15 inches long and Matty is about 5 inches long.  They aren't very exciting as far as fish go - they are both about 4 years old and just eat and suck around the tank. lol  They are in a 50 gallon tank.

  5. I have a pleco that is 5 in. long in a 10 gal.

  6. ive always heard 40 gallons for a pleco that gets to 12inches. not sure what that is in litres.
