  1. It depends on the kind of pleco you have.  The common pleco gets to be around 20" or more.  They are often sold as babies and are real tankbusters.  The smaller varieties, such as rubber mouth and bristle nose plecos top out at around 5-6 inches in the home aquarium and can manage in a 10 gallon although they do much better in a 20 gallon or larger tank.  There are other small varieties of plecos, such as the blue-eyed panaque and some others I can't remember off the top of my head, but the majority are the big boys.

  2. There are lots of different plecos, but the biggest can get more than a foot and half long, so you should get a larger tank than a ten gallon. A thirty might work, but plecos are really intended for ponds, not tanks, unless you get a thirty-fifty.

  3. maybe 4.5  inches if its fed right

  4. Mine's in an 8 gallon tank and is already 7inches.

I'm giving him away soon because it will be cruel to keep him.

  5. He will outgrow the tank! I worked in a pet store for a couple of years and we had ppl try and bring us their 'overgrown' plecos at least once a week!

I took one home and put it a 29 gallon turtle tank and he out grew it in about 6 months.
