  1. A real coach doesn't matter how you play...they just want to know that you are really devoted to the sport and that you are practicing at home or something.  The thing they really LOVE is supporting the other players even if you may not like them.  I have been playing volleyball for about five years and all of my coaches looked for girls who didn't fool around.  Also ask the coach if you can do any practicing at home that will make it sound like you really want to play volleyball.

  2. just practice alot before the tryout and then when  u warm up stand near her so she knows that u are capable and then voulenteer to do drills or demonstartions

    good luck

  3. practice 24/7 go to volleyball camps and maybe  get a volleyball teacher

    watch volleyball practice movies

  4. You need to learn some particular technique in volleyball; either serving, setting, passing, and/or blocking/spiking. One thing you need to do is be consistent. If work on serving, then always land your serves. Also, be unique; overhand serve and underhand serve, do both. I tried out for my 8th grade volleyball team and made it because i was really consistent. I always landed my serve so the coach put me on the team. So when we were down by ten or more i was the person who had to bring the team to victory, which i always did. So just learn something and be really good at it and be consistent and i guarntee you will make the team.

  5. Practice hitting and setting on your own time with your friend and someone who knows how to play. o yea and practice the serving too. Have someone teach you how to hit the ball correctly and just practice as much as possible. I love volleyball and i love to teach people how to play, if i could i would teach you too. But the only thing that will help you get better is Practice. Not just practice your way, practice doing it the right way. You can go to  About.com n go into volleyball in it will show you videos of how to.

  6. You have a pretty good chance of making it if there are 14 spots open. If the coach is taking time to help you , it means she likes you and wants you to get better. Just try your absolute hardest, be very nice to everyone, especially the coach, and smile, coaches love a good sport.

  7. The first thing you need to do is be confident in yourself, volleyball is a very mentalk game, if you don't believe you can do it, you probably won't. Always listen to the coach, and if she tells you something to work on, listen to her input, remember she knows what she is talking about. Hustle, when you hit a ball, run to get it, when you serve, hurry and get the ball and get back in line. If you miss a ball, or do something wrong, don't get down, you just have to keep going and keep the past in the past. Anyway have fun with what you are doing, and good luck!!!

  8. I definitely agree with what everyone's said, but I have a few other suggestions:

Cheer on everyone and be loud. Let the couch know that you're excited and enthusiastic. Just make sure you don't go crazy-hyper.

Be aggressive. One of the most things coaches hate is people who are afraid to go near the ball or are quiet OR don't step up and be a leader. They want leaders.

For working on your jumping-while-setting problem, practice! Everytime you set the ball think in your head, don't jump.

I had the same problem, but then I kept practicing and telling myself not to jump, and soon it became muscle memory to not jump.

Work hard. Have fun. Be loud.

    Good luck!

  9. Hi, you seem like your my twin! Only Im in grade 9 and that already happened. I have never played volleyball before but I went to tryouts anyway. All I did was tried my best, listened to the coach and worked on everything he told me. Pretty soon I was doing EXACTLY what he wanted me to do. Everyone is good at somthing and in volleyball its my serves. Im sure that if you find somthing your amazing at and keep practicing they will want you on the team for your amazing ability. And thats when you get to learn the game. Don't worry if you dont make there is always next year! I was in grade 7 tried out, i didnt make it, in grade 8 i tried out, didnt make it this year i finally did! The best part is, he told me I was one of the top players! Don't worry just try your best!

  10. Bump: Bend down almost all the way and  stay in control of the ball.  NEVER NEVER NEVER let the ball drop in front of you!

Set: When you set bend your legs and push up and keep your fingers soft.

Serving (over hand): throw the ball with you non-dominant hand, when the ball is as high as you can reach with your dominant hand swing at it but don't only use your arm use your back too.  Lean into the ball and don't jump.

Serving (under hand): Many coaches do it different so ask the coach if you should thow the ball or not.  Use your non-dominant hand to hold the ball out in front of you with your dominant hand under it.  Release the ball then hit it up or just hit it depending on your coach.

Spike: keep your hand big and do the right approach.  (If your a righty) step left, big step right, then bring your left foot next to your right foot.  If your a lefty do the opposite.  And follow through with your arm but don't fall into the net.

Block: Just when the other team spikes jump up with your hands big and your thumbs just touching.  Don't touch the net.

Showing enthusiasim really does count and and the can tell when you try your hardest so really do try.

  11. keep doin' wat ur doin' hussle hard do everything hard!!!!

  12. i had the exact same problem. im a good enough player, but there were girls that were better than me and i didnt make it. but, coaches point out what you're doing wrong so you can work at it, not just to harp on you. (i thought our coach just didnt like me, but that wasnt true) to help your setting, try lying on the floor and setting from there. it helps with control, and obviously, you wont be able to jump. good luck!! dont let the coach get too deep under your skin.

  13. really make an impression on the coach like take what she says and really use it. show her that you are really improving and practice when you dont have tryouts.

    i know what your feeling.

when tryouts happened earlier this year the coach only took three new people on the team and i was so sure that i wouldnt be one of the people but i made the team.

just really try hard and maybe ask the people who have played before for tips.

  14. During tryouts a coach should never be satistfied as it is too early to tell who's who.

Your attitude is half the game, have a good one and the rest comes easy.

Work hard Now as this is what theyblook at also, not just skills.

I am curious to know why your season starts November 2nd as ours just ended...

  15. Listen! Listen! Listen!! Coaches LOVE players who take what they teach them and improve their skills!! Keep doing your best and you will get better!

  16. first you should breath and be yourself.

if you stress too much about impressing the coach you will do bad and mess up. its like giving a speech in front of a mirror which is easy but when you stand in front of a crowd you get yourself so worked up that you freak out. you just have to play to your best abilitly like you do at practice and at the times when its not that important.

dont let your coach get to you. you have to put her away in a corner of your mind and focus on what you are doing. from my experience the players that are picked on the most are the ones the coaches like the best.

but you have to just have to have fun. everyone messes up in sports but at tryouts one tiny mistake that the coach probably didnt even see that will be made by every other girl trying out, like shanking a pass, will seem like the end of the world and if you let stupid mistakes like those get to you will keep messing up. if you mess up forget about it because every other girl there will mess up at least once too.

and if this is something that you really want which it sounds like practice at home. set a volleyball against the wall every night and practice not jumping and squatting down farther.

    GOOD LUCK! :)
