Three games took place in Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) on Tuesday, August 2, 2011. Here is a review of some of the most outstanding performances from the three games:
New York Liberty vs. Atlanta Dream
Plenette Pierson
Plenette Pierson was the main element of offence for the New York Liberty, who cruised past the Atlanta Dream 85-75 at Philips Arena. The 6 ft 2 in forward scored a team-high 20 points, pulled down eight rebounds, dished out three
assists and blocked two shots in the victory. The 29-year-old hit 9 for 16 from the field in more than 34 minutes of action.
Cappie Pondexter
Cappie Pondexter followed Pierson with 16 points on a 6 for 10 shooting from the floor. The five-time WNBA All-Star also added five assists, five rebounds and two blocks for New York.
Angel McCoughtry
Atlanta Dream forward Angel McCoughtry headed all scorers of the night with 24 points in the loss. The 24-year-old All-Star grabbed six rebounds and stole the ball for three times. The player shot 8 for 18 from the field and 8
for 12 from free throw line. They player scored 8 of her points in the second half.
McCoughtry has been named Eastern Conference player of the week for the previous two weeks.
Lindsey Harding
Atlanta’s Lindsey Harding was the second leading scorer in the defeat. The 27-year-old 14 points, game best nine assists and three rebounds in more than 34 minutes.
Minnesota Lynx vs. Phoenix Mercury
Maya Moore
Maya Moore was truly awesome in the Minnesota Lynx’s 90-73 victory over Phoenix Mercury at Target Center. the forward player punctuated a game-high added a game-high 22 points, four steals, three rebounds and two assists in Minnesota’s
seventh consecutive victory. The player shot 7 for 11 from the field, including 5 for 7 from three-point range.
Seimone Augustus
Seimone Augustus was another prominent contributor in the Lynx’s victory. She racked up 21 points and grabbed four rebounds in more than 30 minutes of action.
Augustus, who was WNBA Rookie of the Year 2006, shot 7 for 13 from the field and 7 for 10 from free throw line.
Diana Taurasi
Diana Taurasi once again led the Mercury with 20 points in the loss. The 6-feet-0 shooting guard hit 6 for 13 from the floor and 8 for 9 from the line.
Seattle Storm vs. San Antonio Silver Stars
Sue Bird
Sue Bird was as once again instrumental in steering the Seattle Storms towards the victory. The 30-year-old guard recorded a game-high 17 points in Seattle’s 78-64 victory over San Antonio Silver Stars. The player also contributed
five assists and three rebounds in Storm’s second consecutive victory. She shot 6 for 11 from the floor, including 3 for 5 from three-point range, and pinned 2 of 2 free throws.
Scholanda Robinson
Scholanda Robinson played one of her best games of this season and ended with 12 points in the San Antonio’s second Straight defeat. The 28-year-old guard shot 4 for 10 from the field.  The player also pinned 2 of 2 three-pointers.
