Plenty going for Baltic Knight in Irish Stallion Farms E B F Molson Coors Novice Stakes at Salisbury
Wednesday’s Irish Stallion Farms E B F Molson Coors Novice Stakes has attracted five runners, all talented and fully exposed. Every horse has one or two things in favour, but Baltic Knight, in particular, has plenty going for him.
Richard Hannon’s 2-year-old was narrowly beaten by useful stablemate, Montiridge, in the Racehorse Sanctuary Rescue & Re-Homing Centre Novice Stakes at Sandown. His trainer’s track record is also pretty impressive, as he has won three of the previous six runnings.
Baltic Knight performed magnificently in a small field last time, and would not face any trouble in tackling a similar situation here. Last month’s class 4 contest saw him getting a handy lead in the beginning.
Under William Buick, the 8-1 chance kept on well during most part of the race. But the situation got the better of him in the final stages, as he lost his advantage just before the wire.
Montiridge, who was enjoying the highest odds of 30 to 100, made the best of the chance, and seized the top rank by a head’s distance. It was surely an unfortunate loss for Baltic Knight, who was full of confidence following his maiden success at Kempton at the end of August.
Owned by Thurloe Thoroughbreds x*x, the son of Baltic King is solid enough to bring things quickly under control. The going is good to soft at Salisbury, which is not an issue for the juvenile.
Baltic Knight is all set to take full advantage of the favourable things, and demonstrate an even better show than last time. The crew of five will start running at 14:30 GMT. The 6-furlong 212-yard clash is holding a handsome prize worth £4,528.
Silver Ridge’s both wins came at six furlongs on soft. Salisbury’s surface should not be a concern, because he has done well in various conditions. King Dragon is another to watch out for. He has been making credible efforts since his maiden victory, but luck is not on his side these days.
No doubt, Silver Ridge and King Dragon have the guts, but Baltic Knight remains the best option. We wish the best of luck to all the horses.
