Pletcher counting on Caixa Eletronica and Can’t Explain on the opening day of the 2012 Saratoga meet
Trainer Todd Pletcher has the aim of making his trip to Saratoga memorable and for this purpose; some of his best runners will compete on the opening day.
Starting from the seven-year-old Caixa Eletronica, who will compete in the Grade 3, $100,000 James Marvin Stakes over the distance of seven furlongs on 20thJuly, 2012.
The son of Arromanches, foaled by Skip Away mare Edyta, will try his best to take the race from the Nick Zito trained, Jackson Bend – the defending champion of the James Marvin Stakes.
Regarding Caixa Eletronica, Pletcher commented:
“He’s the kind of horse if things go well he could run more than twice up here.”
Expressing his thoughts of running his runner on the opening day of the meet, the handler said:
“He seems to thrive on action. Part of the reason why we didn’t run him was to have him fresh for this meet. By running him on opening day we might get a few opportunities.”
If the older division runner comes out of this race in good form, chances are that he will compete in the Whitney Handicap on 4th August, 2012, or the Vanderbilt Handicap on 5th August, 2012.
Pletcher is entering his charge, Can’t Explain, in the Grade 3, $150,000 Schuylerville Stakes for juvenile fillies, which will also be held on the same card.
The daughter of Not For Love, out of mare I Ain't P T, has already competed in two starts and delivered terrific performances.
While she finished as a runner-up to, Fully Living, in her maiden on 31st May, 2012, her performance in the second start was incredible, as she sealed a victory under the command of Jose Lezcano on 20th June,
2012, where she clocked a time of 57.83 seconds and defeated, Girluphigh.
Both her opening maidens took place over five furlongs and, the young runner will have to stretch herself a bit to win this race since the Schuylerville covers six furlongs.
Reflecting on the two-year-old filly’s, Pletcher said:
“I like the way she physically and mentally handled the two races; seems like she’s gotten a little more professional in the mornings around the gate.”
