Pliskova sisters surmount Luknurova/ Honcova in the
semi final – Slovak Open 2011
Top seeded Karolina Pliskova with sister Kristyna sent Slovakian duo of Michaela Honcova with Zuzana Luknurova packing to the locker room in the semi final of the Slovak Open.
The two squads took up the challenge on indoor hard courts of the Národné Tenisové Centrum in Bratislava, Slovakia. After simply forty five minutes the top seeded couple thrashed the unseeded Slovakian pair in straight sets of 6-2, 6-3 on Friday the 18th
of November.
Commencing the first round of the match was the top seeded couple and they got off to a great as they reeled off three successive games to place themselves on the scoreboard with a lead of three games to love.
In the fifth and the sixth game the players traded in breaks and as the top seeded sisters held their serve for the last time, they were a game away from clogging the opening set. They finally clogged the opening game at the end of the eighth game by breaking
their adversaries for the last time.
Even after taking a beating in the first round the Slovak couple was unable to meet their competition and eventually lost the match because of a poor return which enabled her to bag only twenty three percent of her total return points.
Opening the second round was the Pliskova sisters and this time they held their service game to commence the scoreboard at 1-0. Following in their footsteps was the Slovakian couple, who too placed themselves on the scoreboard at 1-1.
However, in the third game the Slovak couple double faulted on their serve and endorsed a crucial break. Mean while, the top seeded duo capitalized on the breakpoint and then held their serve to take a mini lead.
In the following game the Slovakian couple managed to reduce the deficit with a hold of serve but were unable to muster the numbers. As the crews once more held their respective serves the score was shifted to 5-2 at the end of the seventh game.
Although the top seeds were unable to close the set in the following game, they managed to do so in the ninth game by restricting their adversaries to only three games in the entire set.
The top seeded Pliskova sisters will now be facing the fourth seeded couple of British Naomi Broady with French Kristina Mladenovic in the final clash of the trophy.
