I bought a 2.5 acrylic tank and I dropped 4-6 drops of water conditioner(AquaSafe) that comes with the tank and my betta float on the water surface right away.

2.5 gallons of water you only need 1 drop or maximum 2 drops, says on the back of the waterconditioner trial pack.
