  1. 1&1 I think its like 4.99 a year for a .com, .net or .org domain or 4.99 a month. I have a .net domain.

  2. I would father pay and have them deal with any BS that will come along.

  3. First things first. To host a web site you will have to buy a domain. You most hosts will let you pick a name and buy it with your registration on their service. Or you can go to a site like http://godaddy.com and buy your domain their and use a host to store your content.

If you don't have a lot of computer know how then the best idea is to let a host register the name for you and then post your sites though their service. Cheep and reliable hosts are http://www.a2hosting.com and http://godaddy.com. Yahoo also has a page hosting service but i have never used it. If you go with A2 hosting then pic the "Executive" plan as it lets you host unlimited sites. Furthermore if you buy a years worth of service then you can host those unlimited domains for only $10 US a month, not including the one time domain purchase fee.

    Good luck,

  4. This is a simple guide to hosting your own website off your own computer.  It is 100% free, with optional pay, optional pay as in you can purchase a domain, and a hosting company.  Anyways, you can also host a forum website, by swapping Joomla with SMF (simplemachines.org).  Its all forums, no news page or front page.  But there are some neat things about SMF, which I really like.  Anyways, if you need more help, just send me a message, you can email me at BoxCarRacer8792 on AIM, I am always on.  Good luck, hope this helps.

    Guide:

    1) Download MySQL 5.0 which can be googled. Install it, create a password, pretty simple. Do not change anything but the password.

    2) Download SQLyog, which is at SQLyog.com I think. Look for SQLyog stable. should be free.

    3) Open SQLyog and log in with the username 'root' and password 'yourpassword'. Log in, then create a database named 'Joomla'.

    4) Download Xampp to your computer and unzip / install it. If you unzip it, I suggest unzipping it to your C:\ drive, or 'My computer' then 'Local Disk'.

    5) Go to the folder, if you installed it, it is in your C:\ drive. Open the Control Panel, and it should open a small control panel saying "Appache", and "MySQL", click 'Start' for both of them, if they are already not running.

    6) Go to www.Joomla.org and download the latest version. After downloaded, go into your Xampp folder and go into the 'Htdocs' folder and delete everything inside, but DO NOT delete the folder 'Htdocs'. After deleted, extract your joomla files into your htdocs folder.

    7) Go to your router, and do port forwarding, or look for gaming / DMZ hosting, or something around those words. DMZ is the easiest, if you have it. If you have a linksys router, you can go to 192.168.1.1 to get into your router (put those numbers into your internet browser). After you get to DMZ, or Port Forwarding, click on your start button and click 'Run'. Run CMD and a command prompt will open. Type in "ipconfig" and it will show a number like 192.168.1.100 or 192.168.1.105 or the first numbers with the last three numbers different. Put those numbers in your DMZ, or in the port forwarding 'Port' and the port to open would be '80'.

    8) Go to no-ip.com and register and make a domain.

    9) Go to your domain in your internet browser, then follow the simple step-by-step installation settings. The database name is 'Joomla' or whatever you named the database you created. The user is 'root' and the host is 'localhost'. Obviously password is 'yourpassword'.

Like I said, message me for help. And good luck!

  5. i think the site is called mybb.com

  6. I personally prefer to host my own:

Check out hostgator.com use the baby croc deal for $10 a month unlimited domains and mysql database, it uses cpanel X. Register your domains with godaddy and point the dns to hostgator and you then comfigure your domain via cpanel. cpanel has fantastico which includes over 20 different ready made sites.

  7. Buy a web host supporting multiple domain names.

As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.

If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.

One of these services is reachable at: http://bluehost-service.atspace.com . As an experienced webmaster I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. Their service is really great and easy to use. This company also offers "Free Site Builder" that helps you build your web pages without difficulty if you are not skilled in using any website creating program. (WYSIWYG: What You See Is What You Get).

    Note:

Your first domain name is free. After signing up, via your account you can purchase your additional domain names for $9.99 /year.

  8. It's both cheaper and better to leave hosting to a hosting company. As for domains you can purchase them anywhere, regardless of the hosting company you choose.

As for cheap shared hosting which can host multiple sites on a single account I recommend either:

    1. Godaddy Deluxe plan

    http://www.hosttell.com/godaddy

    Disk space: 150 GB

    Bandwidth: 1500 GB

One cheaper domain with purchase of hosting - $2.19

Additional domains: $9.99 (use the promo code OYH3 for .com domains and you should get them for $6.95)

Price: $79.68/year ($6.64/month if payed for 12 months)

Total price for 6 domains + hosting: $79.68+$2.19+(5*$9.99)

    = $131.82

    P.S. If payed monthly ($6.99/month)

    1st month $6.99+$2.19+(5*$9.99)

    = $59.13 and then $6.99/monthly

    2. Dreamhost hosting plan

    http://www.dreamhost.com/hosting.html

Use the promo code PLUS and get

$50 discount +2 Free domain names.

    Disk space: 500 GB

    Bandwidth: 5000 GB

    2 Free domain names

    Additional domains: $9.95

Price: $69.40/year ($5.78/month if payed for 12 months)

    Total price for 6 domains + hosting: $69.40+ 2 * 0 (free) + (4*$9.95)

    = $109.20

    P.S. If payed monthly ($10.95/month)

    1st month $9.90 + (4*$9.95)

    = $49.70 and then $10.95/monthly

So if you want to pay for a year of hosting I recommend Dreamhost (with the promo code) and if you want to pay monthly I recommend Godaddy Deluxe plan.

P.S. You don't have to purchase additional domain names from Godaddy or Dreamhost, you can just take discounted or free from them and purchase additional from a 3rd party if you want.

  9. its not cheaper to host your own web site because... the internet connection we have is not a static ip sevice ..... the ip address changes each time you logg in..... a static ip address is necessary for hosting website..... your ISP can provide you with static IP but they would surely charge you more for it..... the best option for you is to host your website with some one who provides you free hosting

  10. Either way you have to pay the for the domain name yearly (like $7 per year per domain), but go with a web hosting company. It is a big pain in the rear to run your own server. Dreamhost.com is $10 per month for unlimited hosted domains.
