  1. When you were born to your parents, you began a new generation, if you eventually father children, they begin a new generation.

If both your parents are Irish by birth, and you were born in America, then you are American, born of Irish parents.

If you ever go to Ireland you will see that the Irish do not all look alike, so there is no such thing as to "look Irish".

  2. Modern ways of expression, combined with flashy advertising techniques, attempt to stretch the meaning of good, solid words like 'generation'.  Even well-intentioned authors (A Generation of Vipers) play with the concept.   Yes, we seem to talk about people today as "The Young Generation"  or the "Older Generation", when we mean "Young people" and "Older People".   If we stopped trying to sound literate, words might be easier to understand.

  3. Hmmm...

I don't think you can really "look" Irish or any other nationality because if you compare different Irish people they will all be different.

Now, when you were born, you started a new generation because it was the start of the generation after your fathers generation.

  4. Generations have nothing to do with where your ancestors come from. You start a new generation every-time a child is born into the family.
