is x=y^2 a function

provide a table of values?

i think yes it is

because the table of values will contain the ordered pair (-3,9), (-2,4), (-1,1), (0,0), (1,1), (2,4), and (3,9). And all of them have one input (x-coordinates) and one output (y-coordinates)

Am I correct????????????

Thanks a lot.

  2. The table of values is wrong. I think you flipped the x and y co-ordinates.

Since the equation, x=y², x will always be a positive number, while y can be all real numbers.

So the table values will be something like:

    (0,0) ,(1,1),(1,-1), (4,2),(4,-2),(9,3),(9,-3)

So it is not a function, since 1 value of x gives 2 values of y.
