Pls explain briefly rural/urban dichotomy?

It is difficult to define the line from which one crosses from Urban (City) into Rural (Country).

I would typically see the difference as being that you are Urban where you have the basic municipal services that go with being in a city or township... ie. Water and Sanitary system connections, Paved roads, Electricity... I'd say where you have all of those at least "available" you would be Urban.
