  1. Soap is made from boiling sodium hydroxide, NaOH,(lye) with any kind of fat. The salt mentioned is used to get the soap to clump.


  2. i have a whole book full of soap ideas. are you lookign for a liquid or a ball or a bar? ill give you an example for one of each okaay :)

    Whipped cream soap:

    Title: Citrus Smoothy

    Yeild: 4 soaps

    Ingrediants: 1 1/2 cups soap flakes, 1/4 white beeswax pelets, 1tbsp glycerin, 1 tbsp orange base colour, 10tbsp (150ml) bottled water, 15 drops sweet orange essential oil, 15 drops essential grapefruit oil, 15 drops lemon essential oil &15 drops lime essential oil.

    Prep:

    -> Fill the bottom part of a doubble boiler half way with water and place on the stove to simmer

    -> Grease a rectangular mould.

    ->put the soap flakes, beeswax pellets, glycerin, orange base colour &water in the top half of the doubble boiler. Stir untill the mixture starts to melt.

    -> when the mixture is a lumpy paste, remove from heat and add essential oil, whisk by hand or by electric beater stiring on the lowest setting.

    -> quickly bring the heat up to the highest setting. The soap will begin to look creamy and frothy when it is ready.

    -> quickly spoon the soap into your moulds  and smooth the surface with the back of the spoon. Leave in a warm dry place for 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

    -> Turn the mould over and cut into 4 blocks. Place on wax paper and return to a warm area over night.

    Soap balls

    Name: Purple Haze

    yeild: 3 soaps

    ingrediants: 1 1/2 cup soap flakes, 3 drops blackcurrant bud essential oilm 5 drops spike lavendar essential oil, 6 drops clary sage essential oil, 9 drops lemon essential oil, 10 drops geranium bourbon essential oil, 1 1/2 tsp(12.5 ml) cranberry red base colour, 60ml bottled water.

    prep: grind the soap flakes into a powder and place in a mixing bowl. add the essential oils in sequence to the ground soap flakes. stir well with a chopstick or a fork add the basecolour and stir again.  Heat the water in either the microwave or a saucepan untill hot. pour into the soap flakes and stir again. With clean hands, knead the mixture untill it folds together like a pastry dough. divide into three pieces and roll each into the size of a small fruit (i.e apricot, peach). Place the balls on a sheet of wax paper and leave in an airy place to dry, They can take from a few days to one of two weeks. Then they will be ready to use

    Shower gels

    ingrediants: 1 cup liquid soap base, 1 tsp cranberry red base colour, 20 drops geranium bourbon essential oil, 20 drops FCF bergamot essential oil, 5 drops rose marco essential oil, 10 drops spike lavendar essential oil, 5 drops bay essential oil

    prep: Pour the liquid soap base into a container that has a spout. stir in the cranberry base colour. add the essential oils one at a time. Stir well with a spoon or a skewer. pour carefully through a funnel into a glass or a plastic bottle pump dispenser. cap, label and use :)

    Name: Moonlight milk bath

    ingrediants: 1 1/4 cups milk bath base, 3 drops tuberose absolute, 4 drops morroccan jasmine absolute, 1 drop hyacinth absolute, 2 drops french narcissus absolute, 3 drops ylang ylang essential oil

    prep: pour the milk base into a container that has a spout. add the absolutes and essential oils one at a time and stir gently with a spoon untill well incorporated. pour through a funnel into a glass or plastic pump dispenser.

    Bubble bath

    name: soothing oat bath

    ingrediants: 2/3 cup rolled oats, 2 tbsp macerated calendula oil, 6 drops true lavendar essential oil, 6 drops roman or blue/german chamomile essential oil. Cheesecloth, ribbon or string

    prep: place the rolled oats into a mixing bowl. Mix the calendula oil and essential oils together, then pour over the rolled oats.  mix thoroughly with a spoon. place on a square cheesecloth flat on the table and turn the rolled oats mixture into the middle of the square. bring the edges of the cloth together and tie at the top with ribbon or string to make into a little sack type thing.

    to use this: when taking a bath, soak the bag in water and rub gently over your body. disgard after you have finished bathing.

    Water for solubility, sodium chloride to make sure it's not too watery, sodium hydroxide and the oil is the main ingredients.
