  1. My 8 month old takes this in a day:

At wake up:8 oz of formula

About an hour and a half later: Oatmeal made with 2 oz of formula & a fruit

    Mid-morning: 8 oz formula

Lunchtime: about 4oz mashed veggies. A protein such as mashed soybeans or soft tofu chunks. Sometimes finely minced chicken or turkey.

Mid-afternoon: 8 oz formula. Snack: Organic wheat Teething biscuit.

Evening: Oatmeal or grits made with formula. About 2oz mashed fruit and 4 oz mashed veggies (if she had green veggies for lunch, then evening she gets yellow/white veggies, or vice versa)

    Before bedtime: 8 oz formula

The veggies she eats: peas, green beans, spinach, beans, squash, sweet potatoes, white potatoes, avacado, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots

Fruits: apples, pears, bananas, peaches, plums, apricots

All fruits and veggies are mashed until soft and a little chunky. For hard fruits like apples I steam them until they are soft. All veggies are cooked soft and mashed until soft and a little chunky, like the veggies.

I add cinnamon to her oatmeal when she has it with apples and she likes that.

She has about 1 oz of juice mixed with 1 oz of water about once a week.

Never give a baby honey, eggs, or peanut butter before 2 years of age. Honey has spores that can cause botulism in infants and eggs and PB can cause horrible allergies.

  2. r u looking for one food that u can always always give... i would say any fruit or veggie...but too much of ONLY one thing might be bad...try to mix it up. .   for my 7 month old....i usually find something frozen.. i steam it, and than grind it up to baby food form...i did avocado and baanans the last 2 days...prior i did pees and brussel sprouts, peaches, pears, apples w/ some flavored applesause mixed in.  anything you can find aand grind up, add some water is aok.  ur dinnner can usually be ground up too.  have fun w/ it...its funny to see their faces and new foods.

  3. ***Please research the safety of Soy!  It contains phytoestrogens...naturally occuring plant estrogens, and should not be used as a dietary staple for anyone, especially babies!***

Baby's main source of protien and nutrition should still be from milk at this point.  Food is for fun...to introduce them to tastes and textures.

I am especially partial to starting baby on veggies.  I just mash or blender up (with the juice they were cooked in) whatever veggies we are eating for dinner.  Or I'll cook a whole pan of veggies, and puree them, then put the puree into ice cube trays so I can just heat a couple of cubes at a time.  I wanted my little ones to get used to the real taste of foods before I introduced yummy stuff (even fruits/applesauce).  Mine are great eaters now, and love all kinds of foods...and love veggies!  Mine teethed on celery...the strings held it together so they couldn't bite of big bits.  I kept it in the fridge in water, so it stayed icy cold and crispy.

Whole grains are also good choices for everyday.  I would start with brown rice.  Go easy on the grains though, as it could cause constipation. ;)

  4. Plantain is good for babies.....cook in steam, then remove the seeds and give it to the baby.....daily 1/2 or 1 is enough.

U can give rice, but cook it well and smash it...

  5. I have a baby the same age and heres what is always in my pantry for her: mixed cereal with applesauce and bananas, rice cereal with applesauce, applesauce, banana plum grape, bananas, bananas with apples, pears, banana mixed berries, pear pineapple, garden vegetables, mixed vegetables, squash, sweet potatoes and corn, sweet potatoes and turkey, vegetable beef dinner, and vegetable chicken dinner. These are all from Gerber, and the foods are Gerber 2nd foods.

  6. I still fed my daughter baby cereal up untill her first birthday...i mixed it with apple juice sometimes....she also love sweet potatoes  or even mashed potatoes that i made

  7. Hello.Strained fruits,Vegatables.Rice or potatoes with extra liquid at first.Soymilk, soymilk yoghurt, and tofu (bean curd) can be introduced at 7-8 months.Nutritional Yeast (health food shop) can be sprinkled on baby's food after 8 months.Legumes- You can start trying baby out on beans at 8-9 months.Nutritional Y east is an excellent source of B vitamins, and most brands add B12.Baby will get vitamin B12 from your milk as long as he is nursing a lot.Don't give baby honey before one year of age.If baby is totally breastfed and you nurse often, additional water isn't necessary.

  8. My daughter's pedi said she should be eating mostly breastmilk (or formula) at that age and should have about 2 solid meals a day.  You can give your baby pretty much any flavor stage 1 or 2 baby food you want, just make sure you only introduce one at a time to help prevent allergies.   I also fed my daughter table food at that age, just make sure it's cut/mashed up good, it's cooked well done, and doesn't have a lot of salt.

My daughter is 9 1/2 months now and loves pot roast, ALL vegetables, peaches, chicken, french toast (with egg yolks only & no syrup), and anything she can get her hands on.  She even snatched up my grilled salmon and took a bite before!

Just try to make sure he/she is eating a balanced diet and still getting breastmilk (or formula) as his main source of nutrition, but don't be afraid to let him try new foods.
