  1. Well, I don't want to generalize about a country that I haven't visited (yet), but all the medias have shown us that racial crimes are a current and a REAL problem in Russia nowadays.

There might be racist people in Russia, but the problem is that they feel absolutely "allowed by local authorities" to act this way. There seem to be a kind of impunity, unfortunately...

Just look at what happened lately during  the first "g*y pride" in Moscow : many people , foreigners included, have been beaten by skin-heads.

I read in the newpapers that several "non-white" people have been killed in the streets by some gangs...

Not only foreign African students and former-sovietic Muslims ( from Central Asia and Caucasius) , but even Georgians and Armenians (despite of their being Christian and former-sovietic ) who are usually as  brunettes as Middle-Easterners. In short, even White people might be in danger, if they don't have Slavic look.

So, I don't think someone from Philippines can be safe in Russia, for the moment.

As Trostky above wrote, stay near by the tourist bus...

I hope the situation will change soon...

  2. If you are in a tour group, I don't think you will have any problems.

They are not monsters in Russia, they have had people of different races going to the universities there for 50 plus years.

I live in Hungary and people just don't bother the tourists. I believe it would be the same in Russia.

  3. Comebacks? Skinheads would want to kill you on the spot and you're asking about comebacks? Besides how can you "love" a country without even having been there? I don't know which Disney version of Anastasia you have watched, but believe me, Russian racism is nothing to compare to what you see in Southern US rednecks. Visit the country with a tour, stick to touristic places and avoid contact with those whose looks are 'not so encouraging'. You can never change the way how people will form opinions about you based on your appearance and your race. Have fun and leave the heroism to others.

  4. Talking back to a racist is not the best idea - a) that's exactly what they want, and b) they might be the violent type. Either way, it's better to just ignore it and move on. Plus, I doubt you'll get any outright racist slurs thrown at your face, especially if you'll be in a big city. People are used to tourists, and the only ones that make it their goal to harass non-whites are skinheads, from whom you should really stay away. Provoking them would not be a smart thing to do.

  5. If it was the US, it would be a different story, but I would not edge on racist russians IN Russia. I've seen videos of them brutality attacking simple market vendors just for being a minority. There is a new wave of Neo-n***s who are very very violent.

Its not right, but if you want to stay safe, just try to avoid them as much as possible. Act like you dont understand and try to walk away.

  6. Subhumans coming to Russia seeking trouble may very well find it and in some cases trouble may find you. Do you genuinelly believe that all documented accounts of racially motivated violence in Russia are only ones which have occur? You taunt Russians and you may likely vanish without trace... or become star of entire new kind of TV show. Слава России!

  7. Russia is almost free from nacism

  8. ignore them...its their country after all.  Just IGNORE those ignorant b******s!!
