Plum Pretty will not be taking part in Grade 1 Mother Goose Stakes 2011
Illness can be a troublesome factor in cancelling a horse’s plans; such a fate was recently witnessed by Plum Pretty, who will not be making a trip to Belmont Park.
John Fort’s Peachtree Stable’s Plum Pretty will not be taking part in the Grade 1 Mother Goose Stakes because of a temperature she contracted.
The three year old bay filly last got hold of a win in May 6, 2011 Kentucky Oaks. She nipped St. John’s River finishing the 1,609 metres in a final time of 1 minute and 36.41 seconds. Mother Goose Stakes has a purse of $250,000 and it is scheduled to take
place on June 25, 2011.
Plum Pretty would have been installed as a favourite in the Mother Goose. The race is run over a distance of 1.7099 kilometres. It contests three year old fillies.
Plum Pretty receives training from the Hall of Fame trainer, Bob Baffert, who has conditioned eleven Eclipse Award winning champions. Baffert reported that the bay filly had fever on June 20, 2011.
The fever had calmed within 24 hours, but he still feels some rest is due and the filly is in his barn. Baffert said, “I was going to send her to New York, and she got a slight temperature, I’ve got a little bug in my barn. She’s okay now”. The next possible
start for Plum Pretty has as of yet not been decided by her trainer.
Plum Pretty won 3 of her 5 starts, breaking her maiden at the Oak Tree’ Hollywood Park’s cushion track in October 27, 2010. Her next start had her stand third in the Santa Ynez Stakes at Santa Anita.
The race took place on January 15, 2011. She was third again in the February 5, 2011 Las Virgenes Stakes. Plum Pretty was bought for $ 110,000 in March 2010 by her owner and her earnings are a total of $761,200.
Before Plum Pretty made her way to the Kentucky Oaks she won the Sunland Park Oaks. A victory in the Sunland Oaks marked the 25th stakes win for her sire’s progeny. Plum Pretty is sired by Madaglia d’Oro.
Madaglia d’Oro commands a stud fee of $100,000. This figure can easily surmise how prized his progeny is. Another speciality about her parentage is that, Plum Pretty shares her lineage with the three time consecutive Horse of the Year Award winner Rachel
Alexandra.
Plum Pretty is not the only one, who has deserted the Mother Goose Stakes. Royal Delta, the Black Eyed Susan winner, will also not be taking part in the race as he suffered an injury to his foot. Royal Delta is trained by Bill Mott.
Bill Mott said that Royal Delta may be pointed towards the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks, which is to take place on July 23, 2011.
As for the Mother Goose Stakes, the Belmont racing authorities will sort out potential candidates as the entries will be drawn on June 22, 2011.
