Plum Pretty wins Apple Blossom convincingly
Plum Pretty demonstrated a fabulous run at Oaklawn Park on Friday, April 13 and convincingly caught a sterling success in Apple Blossom.
The high-voltage Grade 1 contest over a distance over one and one sixteenth miles had total five entries. For the prize purse of $500,000, each of the runners ran to her utmost but Plum Pretty outpaced all her rivals to add one more epic feat to her success-studded
career chart.
The Bob Baffert-trained bay filly was ridden by Rafael Bejarano. The four-year-old maverick runner crossed the boundary strap with a decent margin of 2 ¼ lengths. None of her competitors could be able to impede her way towards the victory.
The outstanding triumph by the brilliant filly pleased her trainer a lot.
While speaking to media after the race, Baffert said, “We had some anxious moments at the start but once (Bejarano) got her into gear she just dragged him around there. She’s always been sort of a big filly but her frame is filling out and it was great to
get her back and get a win in there."
Commenting on the victor’s future plans, the champion mentor told that he would decide the next venture for his filly after resting her for some days.
Bejarano was also equally glad over the success of Plum Pretty. He stated, “She kind of came away from there on the wrong foot, but I think about it and it was the best thing that happened.”
“She was great relaxing and after a half-mile I felt in total control. She was ready to go when I asked her.”
As a whole, Plum Pretty possesses an epic track record. Out of her total 11 starts, she has won 5. Along with this, she has two runner-up ranks and two 3rd positions to her name.
The yesterday’s victory granted $180,000 to the filly, hiking her lifetime earnings to $536, 700.
Among the winner’s competitors, Absinthe Minded grabbed the second top position with the margin of a neck. The five-year-old bay mare, trained by D. Wayne Lukas, exhibited a superb run but failed to maintain her pace till the end.
The third top position went to Tiz Miz Sue who was trailed by 14 ½ lengths. Steve Hobby’s mare also ran to her best.
Thus, it was an amazing and thrilling showdown, enjoyed a lot by the spectators. Plum Pretty’s march towards the finish line was quite an amazing to watch throughout.
