It sounds as tho it is trying to fill the tank and then stops. This lasts for about 2-3 seconds. Do we need a new float valve or whatever it's called. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!

  1. I'm not a plumber but that sounds like a leaky flapper--the rubber stopper that closes to keep the tank from draining. You can buy a new one at a hardware store, and they're easy to install.

    Good luck!

  2. if a new flapper does not stop it you need to install a seat kit, that the flapper seals with. They can develop a leak there, and even if the flapper seals, then it will still leak. The one I bought came with the overflow tube. I had that problem once and that fixed it. Good luck.

  3. the flapper is where the water goes down the tank. it would have a chain attaching it from the handle to itself. takesome blue dye and put it in your tank now dont flush it and see if the water in the bowl turns blue. if it does you may need a new flapper. they come right off. also you could have siphonage. look at the fill valve where the water comes out into the tank. there will be a small 3/8 that goes into the fill tube. the tube from the bottom of the tank almost up to the top. make sure that the 3/8 tube is not lower in the tube than the water level outside the tube

  4. I think you need a "what ever it's call!"

  5. Get a new flapper. It's real easy to install. "Big Ben's" are about the best. - It's not the float.
