Also how would I go about disconnecting a chrome pipe that has been welded to a galvanized pipe? The galvanized pipe is in the wall can just get to it. The chrome pipe has been welded into the Gal. pipe. I want to replace the chrome pipe but can't get it off.

  1. What you are describing is a chrome plated brass tube that was wiped into a lead pipe, not galvanized pipe.  What you need to do, is open up the wall, and replace with PVC pipe.  Remove the lead pipe, and when you install the PVC pipe, use no-hub fittings.  These type bands have a rubber boot, with a stainless steel band over it, that tightens around the rubber, making a water tight seal.. This type band is approved for repairs inside walls, where as the rubber only, or Fern-co coupling is not approved for in wall repairs.  good luck!

  2. MAQKE SRE THE TWO PIPES ARE THE SAME SIZE,THEN GO TO HOME DEPOT AND BUY SHARK BITE,EASY TO USE,HOLDS UP TO 200-PSI NEVER USE SOLDER AGAIN. ONCE I USED IT NEVER WENT BACK TO IT AGAIN

  3. Saw it off. Once you have a clean cut....they sell a compression coupling. It's plastic too. lowe's carries them. You will need to know the size of the pipe and PVC....then buy the coupling that fits over the ends. Once you have tightened each end it compresses over the pipe and PVC to keep it from leaking.

  4. I am assuming you will have to cut it off. In the plumbing section at home depot they have cutters that attach to your drill. I always ask the experts at : http://www.askmehelpdesk.com/plumbing/

It's free and you will have to register but they walked me through a bathroom remodel and they are great guys!

  5. just call a plumber as you have no idea what you are talking about  ,the galvanized pipe is threaded in not welded  .

  6. Without seeing it, it's hard to know how much space you have to work with, or what the pipe diameters are.

I would suggest the easiest fix would be to cut the galvanized pipe off right next to the weld with a pipe cutter. Thread the end (if you have access to a pipe threader) and use a compression fitting to seal the PVC pipe in (again, this depends on the diameter of the pipe).
