Question:

Plumbing Question (Toilet)?

I have a toilet that is still in good condition however I would like to replace some parts. Is it possible to keep the old tank and replace a new toilet (the bowl) - the toilet might not be the same brand or type that I have at the moment?

  1. As long as the 2 brass tank bolts line up with the new tiolet it should work. Be careful tightening the tank bolts so you dont over tighten and crack the toilet or tank.

  2. You might be able to find one, but what is the point? You want a new bowl and you want to keep the top part? I have seen tanks sold separate from bowls, but never the other way around.

A whole new toilet can be had for as little as $70. A decent looking one only costs $120.

  3. i DO NOT recommend this.  your toilet tank and bowl were designed to work together.  the engineer of your toilet specifically calculated that particular bowl to work with the capacities of the tank it came with.

    DON'T DO IT.

either buy a whole new fixture or stay with the old toilet and rebuild the guts.

  4. Have you checked online? Usually you can find a bowl or tank. I'm not sure if the home depot does it but they might sell bowls seperately. If the nuts and bolts do in fact match and line up good, it should work with whatever you choose to do.

Yeah, strong flush is important, otherwise, uh "the stuff" will not go down completely and, yeah, yuck-o-rama *shivers*.

  5. You can do that if you want, but there is a good chance your bathroom will look like it belongs in a Mexican Restaurant.  I recommend that you get a new unit.  Cheaper in the long run and safer.
