Question:

Plumbing problems?

I am currently living in an apartment style condo, second floor, that seems to be full of shoddy workmanship and cut corners. It is only two years old, and we are on our second plumbing problem. First, the day we plugged in our washer we had flooding, and today my downstairs neighbor woke me to tell me something from my place is leaking in to her place. I can't find a drop of water not supposed to be there up here so it's not like I let my toilet overflow all night. Is it maybe something that was wrong when they built this place, or does this sort of thing really happen after two years even when things are done right?

P.S. Sorry if I seem snippy, I'm trying to be nice, but being woken after 3 hours of sleep and knowing I can't take a shower, do dishes or laundry, is making me a touch testy.

  1. I would call the building super to investigate where the water is leaking first. After finding the location you may find it is a different problem unrelated to plumbing, maybe it rained and water got in the condo

Plumbing should last a long time, however maybe a nail was driven into a pipe and it took two years to finally rot the nail

I would definately have the association look into the problem sometimes the work can be under warrantee for up to 5 years.

dont always asume the worst until it has been diagnosed

    GOOD LUCK!

  2. Sounds like an inferior plumbing contractor worked on the place. Call the land lord, it is his problem, not yours, unless you are buying the place or agreed to take care of the plumbing.

Most likely the plumbing in the wall / ceiling is leaking. A very expensive repair since the wall will have to be broken into and then repaired also.

Plumbing properly installed should last for many, many years.
