Plz Help! How do you do eggbeater kick?

I first tried the eggbeater kick yesterday with a flutter board and when I'm doing eggbeater, I keep on moving backwards. I'm only doing the leg movement and my arms are holding on to the flutter board.

1. Why am I moving backwards?

2. How to do it properly without moving backwards?

  1. Very hard to explain but I'll try my best. I apologize ahead of time.

    This is for treading water only:

    Hands:

    Should be in front of you.

    Not to deep in, about 3 inches below the surface of the water.

    Push the side to side horizontally.

    Hands should be pushing opposite directions.

    Both hands should be going out and the same time and in and the same time.

    Legs (below the knees, around the shin area + feet):

    One leg is going clockwise and the other is going counter clockwise.

  3. The 'eggbeater' is used primarily by water polo goalies to keep their bodies high out of the water.

    You should be in a vertical position, not a horizontal position, when you're practicing this. (Okay, there might be some drills out there that practice this horizontally but for the most part its done in the vertical position since that's the position it's used during competition.)

    The proper way to perform the 'eggbeater' kick is to kick, one foot at a time, with the toes and ankle position similar to the breaststroke, in an 'up and out' position. This gives the inside of the foot the ability to apply direct pressure on the water which gives the athlete support in the water.

    (and it's called a 'kick board' not a 'flutter board'...lol)
