okay my little sister lives in arizona , i live like 2000 miles away from her . this morning my relatives called me saying that she had ran away. at first i was worried because they said it was with a guy . then i talked to her and she said it was with a long time friend of hers. my mother called the cops but she said she can care less she isnt going to look for her. now before you say anything it is actually in her best interest to get away from all the things we have had to deal with we have been put through some awful things and thank god i turned 18 a few years ago and was able to exscape from this. my sister graduated high school 2 years early is taking college courses she will be 17 in a few months and has been hired for a job but my ? is she is going to make up the last four digits of her social ,will her future employer find this out i told her it wasnt a good idea but what can i do. she said she isnt stealing anyones identity but im worried she will get fired and have no income. is she able to get emansipated since my mom said she doesnt want her living at her house anyway. i really do want to help her in any way.. i just wish it wasnt this way. but it is in her best interest

  1. Her changing her social security number is not a good thing, and I can't imagine why she thought that it would be.  Is she afraid that your mom will find her through the number?  She most likely will not get in trouble for identity theft, but the employer could fire her if they find out.  Most companies want to make a copy of the social security card upon hiring a new employee, anyway, to have on file and to ensure that the person can legally work in the US.  Even if the employer doesn't catch the discrepancy, she will still most likely have legal trouble for years.  Her W-2 from the job will have one SS number on it, and her taxes will be filed under another.  If she tries to use the same fake number on her tax returns, that will really open a can of worms.  Please advise her to not do this.

  2. It is fraud and fraud is a crime, she will get found out eventually.

  3. Why would she make up a number?  She has her own SSN doesn't she?  She should use that.

At 16, with a job (that she gets without lying) and a high school diploma, she is a good candidate for emancipation.  She needs to speak to a lawyer about it.

  4. Yes she will be in big trouble. It is fraud and there will be charges brought against her, also her employer will fire her once they find out. All employers make you sign an agreement once you are hired on stating that everything you put on your application is true and if they find out it is not it is grounds for termination.

I would advise her to go home and wait till shes 17 then leave home. If she gets busted, she will then have a record and that is no way to live. Good luck.

  5. Yes they will find out one reason cause it will probably be someone elses SS# so therefore it is stealing.  She will have to file taxes and more than likely auditors will catch it & if employer runs a police check on her they usually include SS# so it wouldn't match up.  She is really digging herself in a big hole. It will eventually catch up with her.  I don't know legal age in Arizona but if she finished school and momma wants her gone she wouldn't be in any trouble for that. Hopefully the guy friend is a friend not a abuser.

  6. Yes, and the guy she ran away with can get in a lot of trouble, long time friend or not.  And what happens should she get pregnant???

Her future employers WILL find out when her social security # won't match up with any background checks they do, and she WILL get in trouble if it's someone else's SSN, for identity theft, and will go to prison for a long time.  Even if the person is deceased.

    Get CPS involved NOW!!!

Edit: Yes, if she's using a fake SSN, she most likely will get reported to the police for fraud, or identity theft should it be the SSN of someone else, and that someone else or their family presses charges, as they most likely will.
