the standard free energy change for the hydrolsis of ATP was given by ATP(aq) H2O=ADP(aq) Pi(aq)...........ΔGr... rxn=-30.5kj

In a particular cell,the concentration of ATP,ADP & Pi are 0.0031M,0.0014M & 0.0048M respectively.calculate the free energy change for the hydrolysis of ATP under these conditions(assume a temperature of 298K.

    We know that free energy is related by

    ΔG = ΔGo(reaction) + RTlnQ, where

    Q = equilibrium quotient = [products] / [reactants] = 0.0021677419

    R = 0.008314 kJ K^(-1)mol(-1)

    Plug and chug.

    ΔG = ΔGo(reaction) + RTlnQ, where

    ΔG = (-30.5kJ) + (0.008314)(298)ln(0.0021677419)

    ΔG = -45.70 kJ
