the top of the leaning tower of pisa is about 55.9 meters above the ground. As of 1997 its top was leaning about 5.2 meters off center. approximate the slope of the tower

  1. The slope is rise over run

    slope = rise/run

    In this case, the rise is 55.9 meters and the run is 5.2 meters, just divide and you'll get your answer.

    slope = 55.9/5.2

    slope = 10.75


  2. 55.9 / 5.2 = 10.75

  3. use trig.  you know the height and width of the triangle.

    sin(theta)= 5.2/55.9

    sin^-1(5.2/55.9) = theta

  4. simply divide 55.9/5.2

    that's the slope
