Plz help tv trouble 10 points avalible?

i bought a polaroid hd ready lcd tv about a year ago from currys i was playing on my 360 2 day when suddenly it went off and there was a popping sound fromi inside followed by the smell of melting plastic i dont know if i have the recipt because its been so long can any one who knows tell me what i can do or what may be wrong with it help appreciated

  1. Contact the manufacturer and see what your warranty options are. It needs professional service if it went out and you smelled it burning. un-plug it and don't use it till you can determine how to get service on it. As bad as the Xboxes are on quiting them selves, I have never heard of them causing a TV to go out.


  2. A few things could have happened... the backlight may have gone out. To verify if this is true, shine a flashlight against the screen while the TV is on. If you can see a TV channel (or some picture, if anything) than you'll need to get the backlight repaired.

    Point the light AT AN ANGLE... not directly to the screen. It will be very faint image... but will be there.

    I suppose this is the case and that is it the backlight. If so, the thing is, there is not only the bulb, there is also the inverter.

    Looks like the inverters are from $70 to $100, and it looks like it's easy to replace.

    It says it's for 4 lamps. Since I don't think all 4 lamps broke at once it looks like it's really the inverter. You can carefully remove the casing of your LCD (pull the power cord first) and see if you can find any damage on the inverter that is inside.
