  3. well first off they eat hermit crab food and they dont need humidity mine live a long time with out it so also dont pick them up by the shell it makes them mad so let them crawl one your hand and feed them with a shell dish so one side has water and other has food

  4. Google it

  5. Hello i have a female and a male hermit crab and that are medium sized crabs, they live in a 10 gallon tank with 12 inches of play sand on the bottom, if you are decided to get a male and a female remember that a female has ganopores and they are on the 3rd set of walking legs right where the middle is on each side of the legs, their should be 2 greyish blackish holes there, meaning FEMALE if theirs none then its a MALE =)...

Remember that when u get ur hermit crab tank all set up to leave the hermies alone for a few days so they can get used to their environment....

and remember hermit crabs loves friends,,, you

6 small hermit crabs in a 10 gallon tank

4 medium hermit crabs in a 10 gallon tank

2 large hermit crabs in a 10 gallon tank

1 jumbo hermit crab in a 10 gallon

Here is a completed  full detailed list of things u will need in order for your hermies to survive and life happy healthy lives and how to set the tank up!!::

    1. 10 gallon or bigger tank

    2. play sand (soft enough to make a sand castle without it falling apart) *ill show u how to get it moist*

    3. 1 fresh water dish and 1 salt water dish (u can go to the pet store and get salt water power called: Hermit Crab SALT, you can not use regular table salt, even though the sea salt does taste like table salt,,, yes I do taste my animals food, im not gross Im just curious)

    4. 1 or 2 feeder dishes  Depending on the size of the tank depends on how much food and water dishes (get hermit crab FOOD)

    5. bigger shells for them to move into when they molt (if their small, get medium - large sized shell) (if their medium get large to jumbo sized shells)

    6. hermit huts for them to hide in

    7. wired climbing net for them to climb on and sleep on

    8. glass pebbles or hard plastic triangle toys for then to play with

here is a list of food they eat from my experience:

    Peanut butter *my crabs favorite*

    apple sauce

    apple cores

    egg shells

    cherry's

    banannas

    coconut juice

    coconut meat

    and others

PLEASE DON'T HAVE ANY FRAGRANCE SPRAYS AROUND THEIR TANK CONTAINING:

    hair spray

    perfume

    air sanitizer spray

they will died if this gets in their environment

Play sand is the easiest and least expensive to get for your hermit crabs i bought a 50 lbs bag for 5 bucks =) awesome deal!!!

you can place the and in the tank and mix the water in or u can use a bucket and mix it that way.... remember though in order for your hermit crabs to molt (get bigger) they need 12 - 18 inches of sand in their tank

in order for you to get moist sand u have to:

add 1/2 bucket of water to 25 lbs of sand, I used half of my bag of 50 lb sand in my 10 gallon tank  and added  1/2 bucket of water  and the moistness of it was PERFECT and that filled it up half way but you don't want the sand to be dripping with water or to soft to where u can't build anything with it =)

once you have that done, u have accomplished the hardest step

next you will place your feeder and water bowls in their and add the food and water

    then their hide away huts

then their toys and so on and so forth... if you have any more questions about these hermies please feel free to eamil me or send me a message on yahoo messenger:

miss_boo86 my email is the same!!!

and please don't ask about breeding, due to the fact that alot of people have tired to breed land hermit crabs and have came to thay their hermit crab zoae with die after 10 days... only beccause they are being breed in captivity when one of my hermit has babies I will up date you on the outcome of it all!!!   Im hoping the babies will stay alive!!! and show you step by step on how to set up a salt water tank, and how to care for the babies properly so they won't die =)
