  1. 2 megapixels : http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stor...

  2. I think 7 and over is a good camera.

I like my Canon PowerShot SD870 (8.3 MP) is to be the best camera for the money.

This camera is totally awesome! Takes very high quality pictures at a very fast speed. I highly recommend it for its small size, image stabilizer and long life rechargeable battery.

From the first day I received it. I just love it. Great shots up close and far away. Moreover, this is a very handy, tiny and light camera that you can carry in your pocket without feeling it.

The screen is huge and the colors are really good.

Menus and settings are very easy and clear. Some tips appear on the screen when you are using different modes, it is very helpful.

    Great camera!!!

    Good luck!

    I bought it here:

  3. You have to figure out what you're looking for first.  Try cnet.com for their digital camera buying guide.  Do you want a small camera you can fit in a shirt pocket?  Midsized?  Mega-zoom?  What is your target price range?  Do you want a camera that can "grow" with you (add underwater casing / telephoto lenses / manual controls etc..) or just something simple for taking pictures on auto?

Any decent new camera you buy will be at least 7 megapixels.

I highly suggest you look at the canon a570 on ebay or the new a590.  Both these cameras are excellent and can be had for $150 or less.   The main difference between the 2 is that the a570 has a substantially better video mode (30fps...a590=20fps), but the a570 doesn't have auto red eye removal (you have to do it manually through the menu).  Both have image stabilization, manual controls, small enough to fit in pants pocket, red eye removal tools, great picture quality.

  5. Anything over 5 is fine. Pretty much every camera has 5mp these days so instead you should look for things like optical zoom (don't bother with digital) as well as ease of use and features you want in a camera.

  6. it depends on what you plan to do with your pictures.  5 or 6 is more than sufficient for most people who just print out 4x6in photos and crop every now and then.  but if you tend to blow up pictures larger than 8x10, you should go for more megapixels, otherwise it'll appear blurry or pixellated.

also, with most digital cameras, you can change the settings to change the quality of your photo (postcard size, high quality, etc).  so even if you have a 10megapixel camera, you can take shots with 6 if you don't want to fill up your memory card with huge files.
