  1. Run a classroom that is hands on and open ended projects. Rotate sensory and cognitive activities. Don't provide all the materials and tools for the child. Show them where things are kept that they can get for themselves. For example keep scissors, glue, markers, hole punches, ribbon, and other art scraps, where the children are allowed to get them for an assigned project or to use in their own creative art! Have music playing and read lots of books to them. Take as many workshops and classes as you can to get new ideas for the classroom.

  2. Use different items, when teaching.  When I was in Kindergarten we used Shaving Cream to write our alphabet on our desks with our fingers.  It's easy clean up, cleans the desk, and the children will learn how to make their letters.  You can also use different craft projects, such as teaching them to tie their shoes if they don't know how, but using cardboard and yarn, punch holes, and  you will probably have to pre-lace them, then pass them out and demonstrate a couple of times, then go around and help them if needed, then just let them go.

  3. Your seemingly simple question has a complex answer. Earn your Masters degree in Child Development and you'll have all the answers you need.  There are no shortcuts.

Please tell us where you're planning to teach, so I can keep my kids away.

  5. I'm curious how you can ask the question, but not provide your own thoughts to it.  The first thing a teacher should know is that education is about learning.

Not trying to sound like a s*****k - just pointing out the obvious.

  6. Use weekly themes.

For example if water was a theme one week you could have a water table set up w/ small "toys" to play, like a strainer, etc (this does get messy but they love it!).

Do sink or float (have a dozen items and ask the kids "do you think this will sink or float?" before putting it in water. Read books about the ocean, boats, weather (rain, snow)

make a wave bottle w/ soda bottle (secure, glue cap on), this shows the kids how waves act and also density of oil and water. How does water help spread seeds? (bring in a coconut-will it sink or float?)  This is LOTS of fun!!

Incorporate the theme through out the week...Enjoy!
