Who out there has ever had pneumonia? I have been sick for 18 days now, going on 19 and I am so tired of being sick!! Ugh - I'm exhausted and my throat and chest are aching from all the coughing. I'm gotten so much c**p in my chest and lungs I'm wheezing like an asthma patient... and I don't even have asthma!! I've been on 2 different antibiotics, a codine cough suppressant, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, and now, I get my very own inhaler to open up my airways. I am so sick of being sick; for those of you who have had this illness or know someone who has, when the h**l will I get better?!?! Ugh - I started high school yesterday and all this new stress and changes are hard enough to deal with without having freakin' pneumonia!! I'm exhausted and this new stresser is killing my immune system. This new 6 hour-a-day thing is cutting in on my bed rest and s******g up my recovery. God, this sucks. Any consolation?

  1. I have had pneumonia in March of this year, actually I should say March to June. I was in the hospital for 26 days with it in March-April. I left the hospital with an inhaler and oxygen. I am still on the oxygen but have been told by several doctors that if I were to move to lower elevation (I live at 8,000 ft right now) I might be able to use less O2 or even get off it.

I know how you feel, I had school (university) to do plus several other commitment. The best thing that I can tell you is take it easy (I know that you know that already). In school, don't get upset or too stressed. This can be hard. I would suggest some relaxation techniques to help with this, deep breathing, a quick mental vacation, something you can do to help keep you calm. Since it is the beginning of school, you shouldn't have a lot of tests to worry about. If you end up with a lot of homework, ask your teacher the day it is assigned if you can have a little more time because you are sick. The key to getting better is to keep the stress down. Also, make sure that you are able to get enough fluids. If you can, keep a bottle of water with you and drink it empty ever class.

You might want to go back to the doctor and see if there is something else they can do for you. I know that the IV antibiotics I had needed to be repeated twice and changed twice before there was any progress. Like I said, I am using oxygen to help me. I don't know if it would help but it might. I know that toting O2 around feeling like being an 80 year old but it might make you feel better (I am not very old and do it).

Make sure that you are eating and taking vitamins. This will help keep your immune system going.

Hope that this helps, or at least lets you know that you are not alone.

  2. I had that right when I came home from Dominican from a grad trip a few months ago. Its not fun and im not sure if there is anything to do to make it fun. Just remember anybody else who has had this is going through the same thing as you. Also remember at least your not old because older people have a harder time fighting off this (take bernie mac for an example). If you dont feel any better go back to the doctor. Get better!! I just graduated high school last year (2008) and its nothing to be stressed about.

  3. go to the doctor. thats all i can say. perhaps you should quit smoking too? and don't say that you are not a smoker- if you are in high school and you have pneumonia, that pretty much means you smoke.
