Espanyol’s dismal campaign in the Primera Division this season continues after their 2-0 loss to Getafe at home last night.
The struggling Catalan-based side had the chance of climbing out from the drop zone last night, but none of their overwhelming ball possession and shots on target were enough to give them the three points they desperately needed to ease their pain.
Two goals from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ortiz-c28691 were enough to give Getafe all the three points and prolong the suffering of Espanyol.
Under-fire Espanyol boss, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mauricio-c24899 Pochettino, is still adamant and insists that he is not going anywhere despite his team’s two wins out of their 12 matches in La Liga so far this season.
Pochettino stated that he is not shying away from the challenges facing him and understands the feelings of concern shown by the club’s loyal fans.
“I don’t have the cowardice to run away. But looking at our position in the table the fans cries against me are justified.”
The beleaguered Argentine also commented on the fact that the newly elected president of the club, Joan Collet, paid a visit to the team’s dressing room after the match and he feels that it was only regarding ‘business’.
“It was a talk as usual. But now the nerves are close to the surface.”
After looking back at the match, the 40-year-old is urging everyone at the club to be united and has also stated that stability is needed during this trying time.
“We need stability and unity. In the first half we were very nervous and tense. In the second half we enclosed Getafe and were unfortunate not to score.”
On the other hand, Getafe boss, Luis Garcia, has also remarked on the difficult period Espanyol are going through at the moment and believes the club’s fans must stand with their team.
“When you’re down it’s not easy to play. Fans always want the team to win of course, but now is the time when they must be with the team for 90 minutes.”
Last night’s loss against Getafe means Espanyol are still rooted at the bottom of the table with just nine points.
