Pocket Too, only one with proven stamina in Discount Tyres Handicap Hurdle at Chepstow
Pocket Too has plenty of questions to answer after last month’s awful defeat on Goodwood’s soft surface. But if the latest run is forgiven, the 9-year-old looks to be the most fascinating runner.
Victor Dartnall’s charge performed superbly on soft ground twice in April, and could easily pose a threat to the entire line-up. Not judging him on the latest loss, the punters should take a chance on him in Discount Tyres Handicap Hurdle, to be hosted by
Chepstow on Wednesday, November 07, 2012.
The veteran runner did a wonderful job early in the year, ahead of going on break in May. He started his 2012 campaign on a high, when capturing the first place in the Become An Annual Member At Chepstow Racecourse Handicap Hurdle here in April. He didn’t
rest on his laurels, and by continuing the great work, claimed another fine win in the same month.
The audience at Perth saw him beating Jaunty Journey by a short head’s distance in the Crabbie's Alcoholic Ginger Beer Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle. He was quite impressive on his penultimate start at Catterick, where he comprehensively secured the
runner-up position.
The latest ride was nothing more than an unlucky thing. A terrible loss would have given him a good lesson, and the seasoned campaigner is likely not to repeat the mistakes. On heavy three miles, the Fine Wine & Bubbly-owned is going to face seven rivals.
The class 3 contest is scheduled to get started at 14:00 GMT.
Top Dancer is the main danger to Pocket Too. Ben Case’s charge is the only second one with good stamina, and has proved himself on testing ground in the past.
Although the 5-year-old is yet to get off the mark, his consistent run is very hard to overlook. Owned by Case Racing Partnership, the son of Dark Moondancer ran a few good races prior to his sixth place on the seasonal comeback.
A tough battle is predicted between Pocket Too and Top Dancer. The former is more experienced, and should be preferred. The rest of the pack is unlikely to answer stamina issues under these testing conditions. Good luck to all the horses.
