I have become

zeros and ones,

ANSI text

or coded fun.

I’ve never seen

my best friend’s face,

or traveled even

half the space

that I can go

with just one click.

To some I am

a beautiful chick,

to others a laugh

or maybe a pain.

The net's the joy

and surely the bane

of living by bits

in the data stream

of copper wires

and sporadic light beams.

  1. very nice, keep writing

  2. This is a good poem Tori. I love the binary elements of the title.

One minor suggestion (and I do mean minor):

It may sound better in the last line to replace "and" with "of"

    I liked this.

  3. So cobol lady, you just could not resist.lol  What's next a Fortran primer?  A nice look at what and who we are in space to others.  Me, I am 6'4'', handsome, rich, etc., etc.! lol

  4. Nice. Poignant and thoughtful.

  5. Generally I understand the concepts of poetry, but not of modern technology. Due to my last three cell phones, two laptops, one gaming system, and still disgruntled television, I would say I have magnetic issues with my very red aura. However, not the point.

There is an echo of loneliness in this poem, as though the digital longs for the human, sees what it cannot have, what it was not designed to be, for the creation cannot transcend the creator. Also, how the person behind the keys is destined to become the projection of what is seen, not what actually is. I don't know if I am reading this verse of yours right at all, but still, I find myself impacted...and wondering what lies on the other side of the screen. Beautiful work.

  6. What, no mention of batch files? I really like this, technical subject matter being humanized, an android poem. I also liked the reference to "beautiful chick"...   It was tasty and current... [1010 1001 1000 0111 0110 0101 0100 0011 0010 0001 0000 launch]
