Accelerating out over sun-white

Blinding cloud, floating continents of snow,

We dizzily soar these thousands of feet

Above that hazy distant world below.

This numbly silent humming's proof we move.

Too late for apprehension now, you see:

The terrifying speed at one remove,

This giant's roar is lost in tranquil sky.

Brief ritual meal, and then you doze, or look

Out of the window at anonymous

Fields or sea; pretend to read a book,

Whatever makes this limbo journey pass.

Then tarmac screeching under landing-gears

Jolts you awake, and sunlight fiercely glares.
