The striker is set to leave Craven Cottage, despite scoring 6 goals in less than five months at the helm.
Pogrebnyak came as a virtual unknown to the Premier League but in a few months has strengthened his case as one of the best forwards around.
In London, he managed to enthrall crowds with his consistent goal scoring and was able to push forward the club’s aim of making it back into Europe. Despite his displays, though, he has announced that he will not be plying his trade with the side next season.
After his exposure with the Russian National Team in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ukraine-c3032, the attacker feels that he will be able to make the most of his talents elsewhere and is edging closer to transfer to Reading.
The Royals arrive in England’s top flight after winning the Championship and will surely need more penetration up-front, if they are to breach some stern defences. Pogrebnyak is seen as their ideal target, but the player will be taking a huge risk in signing
for them, as they could be on their down as quickly as they came up.
However the lucrative offer on the cards has reportedly turned the Russian’s head and he is willing to make the move to the Madejski Stadium.
According to an official announcement on the club’s website, he is on the verge of completing the transfer, with a work permit the only obstacle.
"Reading Football Club has agreed terms with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pavel-Pogrebnyak-c29501 to join the club. The player has already completed a medical and the deal is now only subject to the player obtaining a UK work permit,” the statement read.
With one of the most talented front-man of the League in their ranks, Reading are bound to be one of the favourites to survive the relegation battle next term. Pogrebnyak has a particular eye for goal and can latch onto any pass played by the midfield.
As demonstrated by his performances in the European Championships, he is at ease on the biggest stage and could be a potential star next campaign, if he can keep up his brilliant run of form which he showed on a regular basis at Fulham.
