Point System?

How many points does a driver get if they win a race or come in second and so forth. I know they get 5 points for leading a lap and then 5 points for leading the most laps, then at the end they get 10 points for each race they won. But how do they earn points right now and get all the points?

5 points are awarded for leading at least one lap. 5 additional points are awarded for the driver who leads the most laps (making the maximum number of points possible 195.)

The regular race season is races 1-26, which is the Daytona 500 in February to Richmond in September. The drivers who are in the top-12 point positions at the end of the Richmond race make the Chase. Points are then reset. All drivers get 5000 points, plus 10 points for each win they have so far that season.

The Chase lasts the last ten races of the season. Points are awarded the same way as mentioned above to both Chase contenders and regular drivers. It is really no different than the regular season, just that the 12 contenders are racing to be the champion. It is NASCAR's version of play-offs. The driver who ends up with the most points at the end of the season is declared the Champion after the final race at Homestead in November. The top-10 drivers in points (note, not all of the Chase drivers!) then get to go to NYC for the banquet.
