  1. Demi pointe is when you are not yet ready to wear pointe shoes bbut you are in ballet. Pre Pointe is when you have just gotten into pointe shoes but you are still training and stengthening your feet and getting ready to go onto pointe. Then pointe is when you actually get to dance on pointe.

To get to pre point, it depends on your instructor. For instance, if you go to a proffesional ballet school, it will take longer to get on pointe because they want you to have perfect technique on demi point before you are ready so that all that you need to perfect on point is your feet. But if you are in a recreational school, it usually depends on the stength of your feet or how good you are at ballet.

  2. it really depends the strength of your feet, legs and your skills. the teachers look for how well you use your muscles and how well your feet point and how well you support your self on soft shoes. demi pointe, in my school we call it soft pointe is like point shoes but without the hard support like the actual pointe. It is shaped like the pointe shows, a litte stiffer than soft ballet shoes. it is to prepare you to go into pointe. we use soft pointe as warm up shoes, it prepares me before changing into pointe shoes during the lesson.

it really really depends what your teacher thinks. i usually wear soft pointe during practices to train my feet to get use to pointe shoes later on.

  3. Pre pointe an be classes that are done partially en pointe, totally in dmei (which literally means half pointe), or in demi pointe shoes (pointe shoes with no shanks).

Some studios use both terms, but traditionally, demi is the state of dancing on your toes halfway, the way you would in regular ballet class, en releve. Pointe is the whole way up, on pointe shoes.

  4. At my school demi-pointe and pre-pointe are the same. They are strengthening your feet for pointe. You only go on 3/4 pointe.  You are in ballet shoes.Pointe is when you have pointe shoes and go up onto your box. Never go on pointe until your teacher has told you were allowed. I hope this helps.
