I am just new to point shoes (started this term) and my ouch pouches are really hurting me. My mum says see how they go but she doesn't know how much they hurt. Should I tell my teacher?

  1. ok well i just started pointe and i use ouch pouches too. If the actual pouches are hurting you before you put the pointe shoes on then your ouch pouches could be too small. When you go up onto pointe and they hurt a little, thats normal. You dont want horrible pain but some pain is expected. Another problem could be that your shoes are too big causing your toes to move around which causes friction. Or your shoes can be too small and they're crushing your toes. It also Could be because its your first time and you're not used to the feeling. I like just started and when i first went up on them they hurt and i wasnt sure if that was normal...but it is =]. Good luck with your dancing and i hope this helped!

  2. I dance too, i don't wear pointe shoes, but I do dance with a lot of girls that wear pointe shoes, u should tell your teacher about it, and maybe u got the wrong brand of pointe shoes, but u definatly need to talk to your teacher about it...

  3. First off, pointe isn't exactly comfortable in any way. It does take some time for you to get used to the slight pain in you toe(s) since you are basically dancing straight on them.

There are different kinds of things that you can put in your shoes. I have personally never used an Ouch Pouch, but I do use lambs wool. If you teacher allows it you may want to switch around with different kinds of 'stuffings'. Also, if you start to get blisters you can always tape your toes to help ward off those nasty blisters.

Make sure to also check your shoe. When standing en pointe your feet shouldn't be squished together or curled. Depending on when you got your pointe shoes, your feet may have grown. This means that you will need to get new pointe shoes. If you haven't sewn anything onto your pointe shoes yet then most  stores will let you return the shoes and get new ones. Remember when fitting though that you should make sure that they are snug, but they aren't cutting off circulation or anything.

So remember that there can be many causes to where, and why, your foot is hurting. You should always go to your teacher when in doubt. Since she has done pointe before she will most likely no how much, and if, you should be feeling so much pain. Good luck!

  4. try toe cozy's they are for individual toes, and help me out alot

  5. i have been dancing since i was 2 and now i am 13. and i have had my pointe shoes since i was 6. i suggest that if they are hurting tell your teacher. they may suggest many different solutions.

    1. the ouch pouches are 2 old and they are loosing the gel inside of them that soaks up the pressure of the block inside of the pointe shoe.

    2. when you are on point. the toepads may be sliding around because they are 2 big.

    3. it may not even be the toepad. it may be the kind of pointe shoe you have. either the shoe is to wide or to long. or it could be that the shoe just isnt the brand that you should be wearing.

    GOOD LUCK!! <3 :]

  6. Firstly, yes, as your mother said, see how they go.

It is quite normal for them to hurt. Hopefully, you'll get used to it. Most ballerinas do.

If you're allowed, wear a band of thick tape around your toes for an extra layer of protective "skin".

If the tape makes the pain worse, obviously, don't put them on.

As an alternative to tape your could buy one of those gel things (sorry, I forgot what they're called) that help with the pain. You can get them at most dance shops and they usually come in colours of clear and blue.

You could have a look around at some dance shops to see if they have anything to help you with ponite shoes.

If any of these don't work or you're not allowed to do any of these, you should definately ask your dance teacher, he/she probally knows best.

    Hope I helped!

    DD xx

  7. what are ouch pouches?  anyway, your feet hurt less over time. sometimes just wearing your shoes around the house can help them get used to the shoes. if your feet hurt really really bad, you can tell your teacher and depending on how nice she is she may let you take them off or go en demi pointe.
