Is good to find questions like yours, give us, Chileans, to say something of the country that we love. By the way, september 18 is our "Independence Day".

I've been blessed of the fact of live in differents cities of Chile, so I think I'm prepared to answer this question.

         Iquique

(http://www.turismochile.cl/zonas_urbanas... . In the coast, near of the Atacama Desert (he driest of the world), beautiful beaches, Baquedano street (http://whc.unesco.org/en/tentativelists/... The people is kind, and you can find a lot of other tourist places. I remember, living there, in one year, just one rain.

         Santiago

Is my fave city, even out of there "en provincia" as is usual to find people who doen's like the speed of life style in Santiago, the smog, etc. I like Santiago because you can find everything you are looking for. You can find a lot of information of Santiago in internet.

Near of Santiago you can visit Valparaíso. What a marvelous place! http://www.corevalparaiso.cl/archivos_up...

Many artists felt inspired of this beautiful city, Pablo Neruda,  Manuel Rojas, etc. By the night is like a million of        in the hills.

Near of Talca, is a wonderful place, the National Park Radal Siete Tazas. See this pic http://www.sietetazas.cl/Fotos.htm

I was there one time, is so beautitful. If you can, go.

In other continent we have a paradisiac place, called the Easter Island, Isla de Pascua. With the moais, and ancestral culture, is for sure one of the wondeful of the world. I've never been there, but is a thing to do before I die.

There are so many places you can visit. In Talcahuano, for example, you can visit the floating museum more old of the world, the Monitor Huáscar. Bolivia and Peru declared war against Chile, "La Guerra del Pacífico". One of our heroes was Arturo Prat. He died in this ship in 1879. In the final Chile win the war and capture this ship.

I have to go and I feel a little bad because there so many places you can go. I'll just mention:

    - Chiloé (Island) (Puerto Montt)

    - National Park Pan de Azúcar (Coquimbo)

    - National Park Torres del Paine (Punta Arenas)

    - Puerto Williams (the southest city of the world)

    - Saltos del Petrohué, Puerto Varas, Llanquihue (Puerto Montt)

    - Universidad de Concepción (the largest University campus in Chile)

    - Base Arturo Prat (Antarctica)

    - Lago Chungará (Iquique)

    - Termas de Chillán (there you can sky in winter) (Concepción)

    - Viña del Mar (in february, the most important Festival of Latin America)

....well, a lot of places I could say. If I can help you more, just write to me. (sabumafu700@html.cm)

  6. depends in what you want to do  if you want  to ski  they  have lots of resorts and stuff santiago is a good city not the most intelectual city in latin america and not the best city  either that's for sure this guy tomato is biased for being chilean, better ask people who has gone to chile  not people who is from there and would lie to you to make their country look good, the vine is very good is true, but go to argentina and you will enjoy a better vine by far  why? because argentina has more european mix therefore  better taste in vine, women are good looking in chile ,but try uruguay or argentina or colombia,venezuela etc..... no contest by a mile, and tomato th first university in latin america was  founded by the viceroy of spain in lima -peru  in the xv century and the first  latin american  writer  garcilaso de la vega born in peru; so i don't understand your point of the most intelectual people is in chile,and that the majority of people have green eyes that is sad, why are you ashame of your mapuche and araucanian roots  they have no green eyes and they are your people, chileans are mestizos not europeans and europeans  are present in latin america since the 14th century the only reason why chile doesnt have african desendants was because there wasnt any gold or silver to esploit and they where taken to   what is now argentina and uruguay to work in the silver mines period;

if you go to chile   enjoy the trip and be safe  i talk the talk  and walk th walk because i have been to peru, chile, uruguay and argentina so i can tell you the truth, oh yeah and i'm from kirkland ,scotland by the way and we have green eyes.

    you feel me.
