Question:

Pokemon Card Game Question?

So... I've been out of the "Pokemon card gane" scene for about uh, 10 years now, and quite a bit has happened to it, obviously.

My question is kind of simple and will probably make me look like a tool. I guess I could sum it up by asking if you, by official rules, can mix different "sagas" in your deck, or must they all be from the same generation.

For example, could I take a 10+ year old Charizard card and have it in the same deck as the newer generation cards, such as with Diamond and Pearl Pokemon cards ("Unown," Mudkips, etc) ... that sort of thing.

  1. If you are playing for fun, then yes you can.

If you are playing at a big tournament (like City Championships), then you are only allowed to use the newer cards from Ruby/Sapphire and up. The exceptions are basic energy cards and cards that have been reprinted (like Potion and Switch).

Starting in either August or September of 2008 (don't quote me on this) only the Diamond/Pearl cards will be legal for tournament play.

    Hope I helped.
