Pokemon Diamond/Pearl - increasing happiness?

How can I measure my pokemon's happiness, and what can I do to increase it? is this similar to friendship?

To increase a pokemon's happiness/friendship level, train it, feed it poffins, groom it in the ribbon syndicate or in veilstone, give it certain berries that DECREASE stats also, give it protein, carbos e.t.c. and heal it AS SOON AS it gets hurt.

To measure either use poketech app Friendship checker by clicking and holding on pokemon, (running away is bad, small hearts O.K., but big hearts perfect) or speaking to various people, e.g. outside pastoria a footprint person.

Ok, to measure it. There's a poketch app you can get called the friendship checker, a girl in a pokemon centre gives you it- Eterna City.

To increase your pokemon's happiness, train it, feed it poffins, and there are certain berries you can feed it to increase its happiness, but they lower speed, defense, attack etc stats. Also in Veilstone City you can get Pokemon Massages, in a house near the Game Corner!

to increase hapinness give it a soothe bell  feed it vitamins  such as iron protein e.t.c or give massages or keep leveling up
