Pokemon Gold; Some Coliseum Thing?

A long time ago, i remember my friend showing me on her Pokemon Crystal this coliseum thing of some sorts which allows you to choose the level of a pokemon, and you battle it. Then we went on my pokemon gold, and it was there. I'm not sure where it is, or if it's just my bad memory of things. Help?

I believe it was similar to the battle tower, and yes it does exist, however it was a new addition for the pokemon Crystal game.
