Question:

Pokemon TCG-How Does Mr. Mime In DP- MS Card really works? ?

Ok so I've had this card for a while and Im beginning to think think that its too good to be true. It states:

"If your opponent's pokemon that has 2 or less energy cards attached to it attacks Mr. mime, prevent all damage done to Mr. mime from that attack. If Mime jr. is anywhere under Mr. mime, prevent all effects of that attack, Including damage, done to Mr. Mime"

Now the question is, If I have mime Jr. under Mr. Mime it prevents everything. Well how about if I have him as my active and my opponent uses:

1. Keen Eye-search your deck for 2 cards and put them in your hand.

or

2. Gigaton Punch (60+)- Flip a coin, this attack does 60 damage plus 20 more and does 20 damage to one of your opponent's benched pokemon.

If Im active and they use gigaton punch and gets heads does that mean that they can attack my beach .technically its an effect of an attack so they cant right? ( oh and please explain in detail why or why not)

thanks

  1. the effect probably only works if Mr.Mime only had 2 or less left. If it has more, all effects and damage would still take place.

  2. The key to interpreting this is the phrase, "done to Mr. Mime."

If your opponent has 2 or less energy cards, and you have Mr. Mime in play (but not evolved from Mime Jr.), then you prevent all damage done to Mr. Mime.  Thus, attacks that do damage to other Pokemon (either instead of or in addition to the active Mr. Mime) will still damage the other Pokemon, but not Mr. Mime, and attacks that have some effect on Mr. Mime (such as inducing a Special Condition or returning him to the bench) will still be successful.

If your opponent has 2 or less energy cards, and you have Mr. Mime in play, and he IS evolved from Mime Jr., then effects done to Mr. Mime (as mentioned previously) will be prevented.  HOWEVER, effects that do NOT affect Mr. Mime will NOT be prevented.  Such as Absol's (SW #21) "Baleful Wind" (discard cards from your hand) or the effect of Gardevoir's (SW #7) "Psychic Lock" (can use no poke-powers next turn).
