Pokemon crystal: how long does it take for schoolboy allen to find a firestone??

i reallllyyyy need a firestone for my growlithe and he's already at level 40!

you dont need that schoolboy allen.just buy the firestones in the second floor in the pokemart in celadon city,in kanto region.

I Dnt know how far you are in it but i think you have to reach a certain point in the game and then go back to him but im not too sure,im pretty sure you can buy them at one of the marts though.
