Pokemon diamond wi fi center thing

me and my friend were gona try and get our pal pad friend code and we went down stairs in da pokemon center and we went to the wifi thing, we both pressed connect and it stll said no connection or somthin like that AND WE WERE RIGHT NEXT TO EACHOTHA!!! we done battles trades underground be4 but this never seemed to work, if u know please give me a walkthrough or somthin how to get our fc (friend code)...

Go upstairs and into the union room.  That should work, but if it doesn't email each other your friend codes (look under key items and pal pad) and names and input them manually.
